Privacy Policy
The short version
✓ Pithecus stores all your data only on your own computer.
✓ We do not collect, access, or transmit your memories, conversations, or documents.
✓ We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, or behavioural advertising.
✓ The only personal data we ever receive is your email address when you purchase through Stripe, used only to send you a receipt.
1. Who We Are
Pithecus is developed and sold by Sam Bousounis, trading as Pithecus, based in Victoria, Australia. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information in connection with our website (pithecus.com.au) and the Pithecus desktop application.
2. Information We Collect
2a. When you purchase
Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. We receive a Stripe customer record that includes your email address, country, and purchase amount. We use this solely to send receipts, process refunds, and comply with Australian tax obligations. We do not store your payment card details. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
2b. When you use the App
Pithecus is a local-first application. All your memories, conversations, documents, and personal information are stored on your own computer. The AI models (Ollama) run locally. Your conversations are not sent to any external server. We have no ability to see, access, or recover your data.
2c. When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address and message content. We use this only to reply to your enquiry.
2d. Website analytics
Our website currently does not use cookies, analytics scripts, or tracking pixels. Vercel (our hosting provider) may log standard server access logs for security purposes. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use personal information only to process purchases, send receipts and important product updates, respond to support messages, and meet our legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
4. Sharing Your Information
We only share personal information with Stripe (payments), Vercel (hosting), and any party required by Australian law or a court order.
5. Data Retention
We retain purchase records for 7 years as required by the Australian Taxation Office.
6. Your Rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you. To exercise these rights, contact us.
7. Security
Your in-app data is protected by your own computer's security. We do not transmit your app data and therefore cannot be breached for it.
8. Children
Pithecus is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will always be available at pithecus.com.au/privacy.
